I recommend a minimum of 6 months' therapy if you want to see any change within you.
If we are still working together at 6 months, we will review your therapy goals and see whether you'd like to keep going or whether it's time to pause therapy for now.

I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions, at which point we review to see if more are needed.

No problem! I just need two sessions' notice i.e. let me know at the start of the penultimate session that the following week will be the last session.

Both counselling and psychotherapy look to improve well-being, but there is a difference in the focus of each:
Counselling tends to be situation-specific and is often short term work that helps you manage life's challenges, with you and the therapist working together on strategies for change. Examples of this would be bereavement support, couples' therapy, reflective parenting work or a one-off trauma that has occurred in your life.
Psychotherapy involves a deep-dive into more entrenched emotional issues, exploring how your past experiences and environment might be affecting how you think and behave in the present. The work takes longer as it involves creating lasting change of a lifetime of coping mechanisms and defences. Examples of this would be anxiety, depression or multiple traumas.
